| The Muslim community has been experiencing fundamental social changes in a modern society, especially in relation to the structure of the family. The course has been devised at two levels: the ‘Certificate in Muslim Family Law' and the ‘Diploma in Islamic Jurisprudence'. These courses will deal with Islamic Family Law and Islamic Law of Inheritance, two subjects which concern every Muslim. |
Aims of the Course

To help students acquire knowledge and understanding of the operation of the Shari’ah with regard to family law and law of inheritance. |

To create an awareness of current and developing issues in Islamic law and law of inheritance. |
|
To attempt to develop an understanding of the application of these branches of law in a secular environment. |
|
Learning outcome
On completion of the course students should have a good understanding of of Islamic jurisprudence relating to family law and law of inheritance. |
Course Outline
The Certificate in Muslim Family Law is a beginner's course over a four day period. It will focus mainly on family law with a brief introduction to the law of Inheritance. The course will cover:

Basic laws of inheritance ( 'Ilm al-Mirath ). |

Means of Dissolution of Marriage ( Talaq, Faskh, and Khul’ ) |

Custody and guardianship ( Hadanah and Wilatah al Tarbiyah ) |

| This is a ten day intensive course, the first four days will be studied with the certificate students. The course will discuss three important aspects of Islamic Jurisprudence: Methods of deducting Islamic law, Family law (al-Ahwal al-Shakhsiyyah) and the Law of inheritance ('Ilm al-Mirath): |

Who should Follow the Course?

The course will be useful for Muslims who wish to know more about marital duties and rights. However, it will be especially useful for social workers, lawyers, accountants and Imams. This course is also open to anyone intending to increase knowledge in Islamic Jurisprudence. |

Entrance Requirement
| |
Minimum requirements: For the certificate course students must hold two "A" levels or its equivalent and for the diploma course students should hold at least two "A" levels and must have attended the ‘Certificate in Muslim Family Law'. Competency in English language is a prerequisite for both the Certificate and Diploma courses. Students are expected to have an interest in the field of Islamic studies and some mathematical background to cover a few aspects of the Law of inheritance. Students seeking progression to the MA degree should have an undergraduate degree, part professional qualification and/or appropriate professional expertise.
N.B. Subject to an interview, MIHE may enrol those who do not have the necessary entrance qualifications but can demonstrate experiential learning and interest in Islamic Studies.
No entry requirement is necessary for those intending to obtain a certificate of Attendance only. |

Assessment Requirement
| |
There is no assessment for those intending to obtain a Certificate of Attendance only. However for the award of Certificate in Muslim Family Law/Diploma in Islamic Jurisprudence, the assessment will consist of written examination and assignments. |

Award of Qualification
| |
Students who successfully complete the course will be awarded a Certificate in Muslim Family Law/Diploma in Islamic Jurisprudence at the graduation ceremony. Students who enroll for the Diploma course may be allowed to carry forward up to 30 credit points to a specified MA degree validated by University of Gloucestershire, subject to achieving a minimum of 55% overall marks and appropriate entry qualifications. Certificate of Attendance will be issued subject to a minimum of 90% attendance, upon completion of the taught course. |
