Markfield Institute of Higher Education is a pioneering institute in the field of Islamic Economics and Banking working in partnership with universities within British higher education to deliver postgraduate taught and research degrees.
MIHE is seeking to recruit an experienced academic to lead and contribute to the delivery and development of its taught masters and PhD research degree programmes and for driving future development in research and educational programmes.
The successful candidate should hold a PhD and have a proven record of management and expertise in Islamic Banking, Finance and Economics.
Job Description
Post Title: Senior Lecturer in Islamic Banking, Finance and Economics
Salary: £37,500 - £41, 500 pa.
Hours: Full-time 37 hours per week
Reports to: The Director
Job purpose:
To provide subject leadership; demonstrate general academic leadership; lead research degree supervisory teams; contribute to the development and implementation of the section and the institute's strategic and academic plans.
Principle duties and responsibilities:
Person Specification
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
1. Ability to lecture, tutor and supervise postgraduate students from diverse backgrounds and experience to a high
academic level. Teaching experience in a higher education environment, preferably a university, is essential.
2. Specialist academic experience in Islamic Banking, finance or Economics.
3. Experience of leading and managing staff. Proven administrative and organizational skills.
4. Sound time management skills; the ability to plan and meet deadlines.
5. Well developed written and interpersonal communication skills.
6. A proven track record in research, teaching and overall contribution to the work of an academic institution.
Essential Qualifications:
8. A PhD in Banking, Finance, Economics or a related discipline.
Essential Personal Qualities:
9. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with students, staff, academic peers and
external/professional organizations.
10. Ability to work independently and to participate fully as a team member.
11. Commitment to providing quality programmes at all levels.
12. Flexibility and responsiveness, particularly to the changing education environment.
13. High degree of professional judgement and integrity.
